Brown and Cream
Why should I consider brown for my family photos or event?
When we first saw Kate Middleton’s Christmas Card, many clients and friends alike commented on just how… brown it looked. Not that brown is a bad thing, or a bad color, but it’s just so “drab,” they said, especially for 2020. Aren’t bright colors better?
When paired with another color, brown can be the star of the show. I find mixing brown with cream and/or gold to be an eternal color combination. Brown paper packages tied up with string… coffee with a generous splash of cream… pecan pie with ice cream… an original Louis Vuitton bag… the list goes on and on!
Following the holidays and all of the richness in color, brown is also the ultimate palette cleanser. Let’s take a look at brown outfits for glam, for on-the-go, for warm weather, and for starting off the new year on the right foot!
How do I do it?
Brown doesn’t need to be drab, and it certainly doesn’t need to be boring! I recommend using brown or tan as the main color for the outfit, and then using gold or shades of cream as an accent and to keep it bright. Similar to a color like navy, all shades of brown tend to go together, regardless of the variation.
When and where is this outfit color scheme appropriate?
You’ll see that brown can be very glam - perfect for an event like New Years Eve, or truly any Black Tie event. If you’re looking for a great airport-to-vacation outfit, brown is an excellent color choice and wonderful for anyone on-the-go. Once you arrive at your destination, a nice tan outfit sets off your tan perfectly and looks very chic. With its long history in academia (think brown tweed jackets with elbow patches), a great brown outfit immediately looks very smart. Tread lightly on the equestrian/western look - only because it is so common and a bit overdone, and you don’t want to look like you’re wearing a costume. The outfits I’ll show you can be dialed up or down depending on just how much the mountains are calling you!
Who can wear it?
Everyone can look chic in brown, tan, cream, and gold - and it will always be a timeless look for family photos or events.
